A little bit of history on Priddoes Pottery
Peter Priddoes established this mid-century pottery after leaving Babbacombe pottery in 1952. He was previously at Dartmouth Pottery. In 1954, Peter and his wife Mayr stated their own pottery at Three Beaches Goddrington, where they produced simple items with sgraffito and slip designed in the fashion of the 1950s and 1960s. Much of the decorating was done by Peter’s sisters June Grose, other decorators included Janet Churchwood, Marian Snell and throwers at different times were Donald Duxley, Peter Draper, Stuart Bass and Cyril Wilson.
The pottery produced was very much in the style of the 1950s and 1960s, what we now refer to as retro pottery with abstract and geometric designs in bright colours including stylised motifs on flat areas and pastel colours.
In 1964 the Priddoe Studio pottery was closed and sold.
